What is Maths-Whizz Suite?
The Maths-Whizz virtual tutor is designed to simulate some of the most effective behaviours of a human tutor.
It starts by assessing each student’s needs across several maths topics, then automatically prepares an individualised learning plan that targets students’ individual knowledge gaps.
Students are guided through hundreds of interactive lessons, and Maths-Whizz uses continuous assessment to adapt to students’ needs – it advances them in a topic when they have demonstrated good understanding and intervenes with scaffolded prompts and remedial content when students show struggle.
Maths-Whizz has over 1200 interactive, animated lessons covering Foundation to Year 8
As students interact with Maths-Whizz, the tutor automatically generates insights on how they are progressing in each of the 22 topics of the maths curriculum, which can be accessed in real-time by parents, teachers…and tutors.
Recommended Usage
Children who use Maths-Whizz for 60 minutes a week improve their Maths Age by, on average, more than 18 months in their first year of use.

The technical aspects mean that I spend a lot of time trying to deal with none working log ins, children having issues on their account, the systems at school needing to be completely re-done, glitches in some accounts, on the i-pads the page becoming too big for the screen and it cannot be reduced unless you go out of the activity and back in, doctor whizz time consuming to use: technical aspects outweigh the positives

We find it works well for our children and keeps them engaged. The missing point is for the disappointment when they lose their status or get caught up in a loop.

Think it is good
Joanne Mann found maths-whizz:
- Significantly builds student knowledge“At school we cover topics and then move on. With Maths Whizz the learners keep revisiting topics so there is lots of reinforcing. Also when we start a new topic I have had learners say 'I remember this from Maths Whizz'.”
- Moderately improves attainment“I am about to do some end of term assessment so I am hoping that the learners who use Maths Whizz will show improving attainment.”
- Slightly reduces attainment gap“Not all my children use Maths Whizz at home and they are the children who need to. I also run an after school Maths Whizz club but again it is mainly more able children who attend.”
- Does not reduce teacher workload“I have a P1/2 class and children struggle to log in on their own so it is very time consuming for me to help each one. Also I only have 3 computers in class and share laptops with whole school (not enough for each child)”
- Slightly provides school data“Not used it for providing data, will look into that as I am just about to start reports.”

when the children enjoy the system it works brilliantly to aid their learning. However many children become frustrated by having to 'repeat the same lesson' or if the program is asking them to work through something in a different way to how they do it. Overall it is good.

Maths Whizz has been an invaluable tool for homework. The questions are individually tailored to each child, providing a 1:1 experience at home. Parents are able to follow their child's progress but are not involved in the helping their children so do not feel overwhelmed by a curriculum that differs from the teaching they themselves received. The progress reports and the ability to set specific subject areas are both useful tools for the teachers. The children respond very positively to the teacher messages and stickers they receive when they log on at home.
