What is Lt?

Used by 100,000+ students at 400+ institutions worldwide, Lt is an online learning platform that engages students with real data, inside and outside the lab.

Lt is the only cloud-based learning platform for data acquisition. Students can record and analyze their own physiological signals using Lt Sensors or PowerLab (on MacOS or Windows) for a truly hands-on learning experience. Sampling panels in Lt can record pulse, ECG, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and more.

Choose from over 900 ready-to-use, interactive, and fully-customizable lessons for life science, nursing, and medicine.

Lessons in Lt include pre-recorded example data that can be switched on automatically when teaching remotely, or in situations where data recording isn’t available.

It's super easy to use out of the box but certain deep dives require work-arounds; there is a learning curve to Lt in terms of use, edits and customization; certain bulk edit features are not available.

    Many of the activities and lessons were written by people who actually understand not only the traditional physiology approach to learning but also the clinical correlates. This makes the connections so much clearer and more practical for students.

I have used many programmes over my years in nursing but this platform suited the school of nursing as it contained almost everything we needed to teach nurses conditions and the patient as a whole plus the opportunity to edit our existing lessons into Lt. As administrators and lecturers we could tailor the lessons/modules to our curriculum. It also allowed us to present assessments in a more varied way to the students rather than platforms such as Blackboard / Moodle. I also developed lessons in conjunction with our clinical simulation delivery. In Scotland, Kt users from a variety of different schools collaborate together with common goals I also gave the advantage that most customers don’t that I visited and worked with the teams at ADI 77 Vogel St and was iniressec by their ethos and approach to their goals and always striving to serve their users.     Previous .ppt presentations were converted into Lt with student participation

    Interactive rather than presentation in lecture theatre. Pre work prior to clinical skills sessions. Use of ‘real’ patients whereas before ‘made-up’ scenarios. I could add many more examples

    Students working through lessons working to towards a comprehensive understanding of a condition. Lessons were tweaked for the different year groups to fed knowledge into their grasp of conditions

    We know from written feedback, short surveys and verbal feedback of student groups Lt was welcomed by the majority of students after its initial introduction as third year students had not been involved before whereas first year student were given their licences in the first month

I love it. But like any tech tool, it can be tricky to get up and running. There is also a learning curve for students, so it can be rather high maintenance to use. I don't have many colleagues who use it, even though we have all the stuff.

    I can build lab activities, and then reuse them semester by semester.

    Edits/improvements I make to the activities impact all students moving forward. As I figure out better ways to do something, I can add a note about that into the LT activity. Super efficient!
  • Slightly improves attainment
    I'm assuming attainment means student retention (they stay in the class)? I don't think it has much of an impact, but LT does make me feel like I can offer MUCH more robust lab experiences for my online students.
  • Significantly builds student knowledge
    The activities are varied and can give students lots of opportunities to practice what they are learning. I love that!
