Who is the GEC?

Founded by teacher and school leader, Nic Ponsford, the Global Equality Collective (GEC) is a multi-award-winning global community of over 13,000 inclusion, diversity and well-being change makers including 400 DEI subject matter experts, 'the Circle', who work together to equip, empower and educate. We fuse this knowledge base with our ground-breaking technology (the GEC Platform) which enables state-of-the-art analytics, practice-based evidence and the latest academic research to solve the biggest issues in education - inclusion, diversity and well-being.

In short the GEC Platform is a survey-based tool to figure out what is going wrong and the solution to fix it.

Here's why the GEC Platform is the game-changer that you desperately need:

Proof of Concept: We have successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of our platform in empowering and equipping schools. Through our intuitive edtech solution, we have shown tangible improvements in student outcomes and attendance rates. Reaching over 216k students in 30 countries

Market Leadership: The GEC Platform is not just another player in the market; we are the market leader. Our scalable solution sets us apart from alternatives, offering unparalleled efficiency and effectiveness.

In-House Expertise: We boast a diverse and experienced Collective of 400 education experts who have contributed to the development of our platform. This ensures that our solution is tailored to meet the unique needs of your school, college or trust.

Psychologically Safe Environment: The GEC Platform provides a psychologically safe and verified environment, co-created by school leaders, teachers, and students. This fosters a conducive learning environment where every individual feels valued and supported.

Alignment with Governance Standards: Our platform seamlessly integrates with schools' existing governance and monitoring procedures, including Ofsted requirements. This ensures compliance while driving continuous improvement.

Data-Driven Success: With our robust data strategy, the GEC Platform enables schools to enhance staff retention and recruitment, improve student attendance, and promote overall well-being and safety. By leveraging actionable insights, schools can make informed decisions that drive positive outcomes.

Our aim is simple, to make ordinary classrooms extraordinarily inclusive by revolutionising school culture.

We have just been listed in the top ten for Business Cloud’s 2024 Edtech50 and were especially highlighted at the BETT Awards 2024 as ‘Highly Commended’ in the ‘Transformational Impact’ category.

“The judges said this is a much needed tool in developing awareness of diversity and inclusiveness in schools and education! The testimonials from schools were strong with substantial evidence on the implementation of the tool and the platform seems to be gaining traction. Diversity, inclusivity and equity in EdTech is such an important topic and GEC are clearly doing this in a big and powerful way.”

BETT Awards, Highly Commended, Transformational Impact 2024 category

“It was certainly very, very close as to which was going to be the winner, and who was the runner up. But this was a really special tool that is making a huge difference to schools. I think one of the things that stood out about this platform was the incredible depth of research that's really gone into bringing this tool to the market. That was something that stood out, along with the impact that it's then having. It's only been around about 18 months or so, already in over 300 schools in 30 countries. Really, really proud to have the runner up being GEC Platform by the Global Equality Collective. Very, very well done to them!”

Global Edtech Awards, Runner Up, Well-Being, Online Safety and Safeguarding 2024 category

“The GEC Platform is revolutionising not only how education understands diversity and inclusion, but also how edtech can disrupt the sector to improve outcomes for staff and students alike.”

BETT Awards, Finalist in the Innovator of the Year 2023 category

“The GEC Platform is the app of our time. It deliberately does not shy away from asking organisations deep thought provoking questions about equality. The best bit is, it not only asks questions of organisations… but it also has the answers too!”

Chris Jackson, Headteacher Avonwood Primary School, United Learning Trust

“This is much more than an app or an accreditation. The GEC Platform is a one stop shop of curated research, analytics, expert sector voices, ready-made CPD tools and resources, peer reviewed reading recommendations and a supportive community. This is a springboard to real and ongoing whole scale organisational change and development.”

Emma Turner FCCT, Author and Research Lead for DSAT

“The GEC deals with equality and inclusion from early years to post-16. If people are going to change, all parties need to be on board. The work that the GEC does is invaluable and I am sure that the outcome will be that we don’t need to talk about stereotypes and equality. They will be a thing of the past.”

Graham Andre, BAFTA nominated BBC2 documentary, co-author of ‘The Equal Classroom’ and teacher

Recommended Usage

The GEC Platform opens a window on schools current cultural health position and enables leadership to work with its teachers and students to improve and broaden its understanding through a wealth of resources from the GEC Library and tailored advice from specialists to inform their future inclusion and well-being journey and strategy.

GEC Champions (SLT) are required to complete the Self Assessment (20 mins individual and 60 for a team). Staff surveys take 20 minutes and students 15 minutes (unsupervised) to 30 minutes (1:1 supervision).

Following this, the Champion engages with the data and action plan.

All staff can access the 'GEC Library', a Netflix style online CPD hub, with over 250 materials including lived experience videos and Leadership 'Playbooks'. Materials for student assemblies and lessons can be shared by staff directly.

We recommend that Champions engage at least monthly with the GEC Action Plan and Library once they have their data for action-driven impact. Staff should access the GEC Library for CPD needs - at least termly.

The data provided by the GEC has been instrumental in informing our action plan for EDIB and identifying what we need need to do in school to facilitate belonging for all stakeholders . The resources have not been fully utilized up to now - but they will be embedded within our new PSHE units for middle and high school . They are powerfully and all encompassing .

Reply from GEC Platform:Thank you so much for this Judith! As one of our first international schools, we love supporting you with your work via our data and resources. To see that the GEC Platform helps you to inform your goals is why we get out of bed in the morning! We have also enjoyed supporting your parents with virtual Q&As and look forward to helping you with your approach as we continue.
Judith Scholes found GEC Platform:
  • Slightly reduces attainment gap
We don’t correlate skills to achievement .
  • Significantly provides school data
I use the school and staff data to inform our strategic goals. The anonymity allows users to be honest and feel comfortable providing qualitative data - examples of being othered or excluded, as well as observations about organizational policies and approach . This makes it easier to understand the lived experience of all in school and make adjustments to our approach where necessary .
  • Slightly improves teacher wellbeing
  • Moderately improves behaviour or wellbeing
The data highlights areas where the average can improve policies / approach and be proactive in supporting all in school.
  • Slightly builds student knowledge
When well used, the resources have the potential to make a significant difference on students - and improve knowledge , skills and understanding .

Approachable team, very supportive and the surveys are thorough - a great way to get a DEI snapshot in a school.

Reply from GEC Platform:Thank you so much for this review, Daniel. We are so pleased that the GEC Platform is helping you as an international school to get a snapshot on your current culture. We hope in year 2 that we can match the work following your student surveys with closing attainment gaps and likewise your staff and their well-being surveys next time around. Just let us know if you need anything else!
Daniel found GEC Platform:
  • Does not significantly reduce attainment gap
  • Significantly provides school data
Holistic view of student and staff perspectives on DEI. So far the most helpful has been about inclusion and the curriculum.
  • Slightly improves teacher wellbeing
It's too early to tell - we are still rolling resources out to staff. The staff surveys went down well with our staff. E.g. positive comments afterwards about the workplace taking an interest in DEI.
  • Slightly improves behaviour or wellbeing
It's still too soon to tell. We will start using GEC resources more actively from August.
  • Slightly builds student knowledge
