What is GCSE Prepper?
Our mission is to enable all students to use the learning strategy that will deliver the maximum possible benefit, whilst simultaneously eliminating the marking workload for teachers.
Cognitive psychologists that specialise in the conditions that promote long-term learning have spent decades researching the most effective strategies and there is now a broad consensus that the most effective means of building durable learning is to practise retrieving information by answering questions. This effect is magnified if:
- practice sessions are spaced out rather than crammed together
- students interleave between topics rather than blocking (studying one topic at a time)
- students repeat questions answered incorrectly so that their final attempt within each session is correct
In all instances, this learning strategy is more effective if students practise on a test format that is consistent with the kind of questions they will face in their final exam.

GCSE Prepper is unique in enabling students to employ this optimal strategy. We can represent any question style that has a defined mark scheme (so can prepare students for the vast majority of questions they will face in their GCSEs / 'A' levels). We currently cover all of the GCSE science qualifications for AQA and can thoroughly prepare students to answer all types of questions (up to, and including, 6-markers).
Students answer questions on the platform, and a marking engine, powered by AI, provides them with detailed feedback tailored to their answers. It then re-serves any questions they answer incorrectly so that their final attempt within each session is correct. The technology is currently marking 85% of all alswers submitted to the platform in real time, with the remaining answers marked by a subject expert within 48 hours.
We also offer teachers intuitive reports that they can use to motivate their students to increase out-of-school activity and to inform lesson planning.
Recommended Usage
Students should aim to spend at least 15 minutes per week per subject. More will deliver a bigger uplift in student performance.
