What is EDClass?
EDClass is a DfE-accredited alternative provider of online edcuation. We offer KS2, 3 & 4 virtual learning resources in Maths, English language and literature, Science chemistry/physics/biology, PE, PSHRE, functional skills Maths & English. Our teacher support is on demand and can be flexible based on the needs of the young learner. Teachers are available Monday to Friday, 8.30am until 5pm. The teachers and resources are accessed through what we call a ‘seat’. This is where the student works asynchronously with on demand 1:1 remote pastoral and academic support from QTS experienced teachers, all with robust safeguarding interventions to protect the most at risk vulnerable learners. We can provide diagnostic assessments to find academic levels and identify gaps in learning. From the diagnostic assessment a structured learning strategy will be put in place with regular follow-up assessments to track the academic trajectory. All our pre-made resources can be accessed 24/7 should the young learner want to do any self-learning.
The live support given by our teachers forms a valuable part of the pastoral care plan we offer. We are used by most of our customers as a hybrid approach when looking to slowly integrate a learner back into the school. All the resources and our teachers can still be accessed when a learner is in school. The comfort of having the teacher a learner has bonded with in the school setting, helps elevate some of the anxiety.
Our approach is not the typical 1 : 1 or 1 : 8 live taught lesson. We see many of our learners flourish when they can progress without the judgement of a small cohort or 1:1 session.
Recommended Usage
Determining a minimum usage for observing impact on students is challenging due to individual differences. However, based on our experience, we recommend an average of one hour of engagement per subject, per day as a general starting point. This level of interaction is often sufficient to see positive outcomes in knowledge acquisition, attainment, and behaviour. It's crucial to emphasize that individual needs vary significantly. Factors such as learning style, subject complexity, and student support requirements influence optimal usage. EDClass offers flexibility to accommodate diverse learners, allowing educators to tailor the platform to specific student needs.

This is a great service to use as an educational platform and also as a safeguarding children at home tool
Farhan Patel found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“Setting work for children who are educated off-site”
- Slightly improves attainment“Students who have been disengaged from education for a long time have started to come back to school”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“Students are able to pre-learn using the platform”
Dec 2022
I would recommend EDClass for a number of reasons. The first being the that the customer service team are extremely helpful. No matter which member of the team answers the phone, everyone is always there to help no matter what the query. Genuinely really nice people who are very helpful. Requests are always followed up straight away with no delay which is especially helpful for a school as it is really fast paced and things need to be put in place quickly. The second being the accessibility for staff. The daily attendance alerts you receive via email and text mean that you don't have to make time to look at student attendance on the account. This is helpful for me as I have such a busy schedule and don't have time to look everyday.
Kyle Dixon found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“It helps when a student is at risk of permanent exclusion. A teaching assistant can supervise a student in school whilst a specialist EDClass teacher is supporting the student online. This saves any teachers in school the time of having to prepare work for these students out of mainstream lessons.”
- Significantly improves attainment“One example is a student who was unable to come into school for medical reasons. Working on EDClass from home meant this student was able to continue learning, stop any further gaps in knowledge and have daily interactions with high quality teachers. It is also more interactive than completing paper based learning.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“A lot of students at risk of permanent exclusion have low attainment levels due to being constantly excluded, in isolation or out of the classroom. Having EDClass means we can offer high quality lessons to these students and also a live teacher to support rather than leave them to work completely independently.”
Dec 2022
The resources are appropriate for every key stage and the level of work maps into our curriculum. The platform is easy to use for staff and students. The safeguarding elements are a key feature.
John Vincent found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“EDClass has completely reduced the need to directly send work and supply resources from our teachers.”
- Significantly improves attainment“Some students with different needs would have no access to education so EDClass keeps them involved in learning to improve or maintain levels. Students predominantly core subjects and they can access them at home. If they're off for a medical issue or concern they're still able to access a level of education.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“EDClass keeps students up to speed when they aren't in school.”

I would definitely recommend EDClass to others
Gillian Smythe-Rice found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“In situations where students aren't able to or have limited access to teachers in school, EDClass provides an alternative learning solution.”
- Significantly improves attainment“EDClass definitely has an impact on students' attainment. It enables students who aren't in school to have access to an education.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“Students who aren't able to access mainstream education (such as those with mental health difficulties, etc), can still receive an education remotely through EDClass.”

Im sure it could be used better than we use it but i believe that 7 is a fair score for how we use it
Emma found EDClass:
- Moderately reduces teacher workload“It allows work to be set for students who do not access school and the teachers and keep up with their independent study meaning that the teachers are able to concentrate on the students in fromnt of them”
- Slightly improves attainment“It can improve attainment of students who make the most of it.”
- Moderately builds student knowledge“It offers a different way of learning which suits some of our students better”

Effective in terms of providing education to those not accessing mainstream school
Steve found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“KS3 Teachers not required to provide work for students”
- Slightly improves attainment“None”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“Maintaining and revisiting prior knowledge and consolidating”
Apr 2022
Students find the lessons too repetitive, the service is only good for 1 or 2 weeks maximum, if student bother to log in at all. Edclass do not care if a student is not logged on, all the reasonability is on the school. The administrative back end of service is terribly designed and awful to use. The whole service requires a complete redesign.
Steve found EDClass:
- Does not reduce teacher workload“Our Teachers have nothing to do with Edclass”
- Does not improve attainment“No improvement on attainment has ever been linked to this service”
- Slightly builds student knowledge“As long as Students log in and use the lessons, then hopeful they may learn something”

I did need a little support in the first instance but once I became familiar with the platform and all it's functionality, I can highly recommend to others.
Jamey Roberts found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“Teachers aren't required to spend time creating student work-packs, as learning can be pre-assigned on the EDClass platform, ready to be accessed by any student at any time.”
- Significantly improves attainment“Since the school re-opened following the COVID lockdown, there are one or two students who haven't been able to return to the mainstream classroom. Accessing the EDClass platform is helping to minimise loss of learning for these individuals.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“I often direct students to the Independent Learning area of EDClass, where they can find additional learning to support the school curriculum and further strengthen their knowledge.”
Jan 2022
The monitoring and reports are great and it's interesting to see their work. From the reports I can see what lessons students have completed and the exact amount of time they’ve spent learning. I am also able to code accordingly by checking the reports.
Alison Cromack found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload
- Significantly improves attainment“I use it as a bridge for students who aren't in school so that they don't fall behind with their learning. Because of some student's needs, the best place for them to be is at home and EDClass allows them to complete work whilst at home.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“It’s building and extending on the students’ knowledge whilst they are not in school. If students weren't using EDClass, they wouldn't be developing their knowledge.”
Jan 2022
The staff at EDClass are helpful and supportive and always willing to help. The students that learn offsite are fully safeguarded which gives the school peace of mind and confidence. It has also allowed students to continue with their learning whilst being able to sit trial exams.
Sandip Das found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“Reduces time in researching and allocating curriculum paper based lessons. Also the lessons are marked by EDClass staff which allows teaching staff more time to organise lessons within school”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“Students who are unable to access the mainstream classroom are able to access learning through EDClass+, ensuring that they don't fall behind due to absence. Also improves attendance.”
- Significantly improves attainment“Helps to reintegrate students back into a school environment, and significantly reduces the need for catch-up.”
- Moderately builds student knowledge“EDClass+ platform can identify varying levels of ability and from this is able to identify gaps in knowledge and target these areas.”

We are really impressed with the EDClass and are starting to utilise it for students in detention. For example, we are focusing on Literacy currently, and EDClass has the books that each student is studying in a digital format, so we're assigning Literature lessons to our detention students, so they get meaningful learning that reinforces what they've been studying in the classroom. It's easy for the teacher in the Detention Room to just ask the student to complete their EDClass learning, knowing that there's a bespoke pathway in place for each individual learner. We now have an Aspire Room in school, which has laptops set up for EDClass, alongside teachers delivering English and Maths in the classroom. This helps with differentiation and student management whilst giving the students a variety of learning methods. It's really allowed our Aspire Room to develop and encourage our students to return to the classroom.
Julie Nuttall found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“We use EDClass as an alternative provision. It works really well, as our teachers simply tell me (the administrator) what learning is taking place in school and I map the EDClass learning to mirror the school's curriculum. EDClass takes away the need for lesson-planning, as the lessons are already available through the platform, so teachers can be confident that their AP students are receiving relevant learning without actually having to get involved with planning the lessons themselves, as they would if providing work in other formats, so it's a great time-saver in that respect.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“We map our EDClass pathways to the school curriculum. We had a high-level student that wasn't attending school, but both she and mum were really pleased with EDClass, as it provided lesson feedback, just like you receive in school. EDClass allows reluctant learners, or those with varying levels of need to receive the same learning opportunities as they would in school. Unlike other alternative provisions, EDClass provides our AP students with the high quality of learning, that they'd get in school.”
- Significantly improves attainment“EDClass helps to maintain attainment. One of our learners absolutely loves EDClass. In fact, she engages so well with EDClass that she's used it in school too. I can really see that EDClass has given her the confidence to return to school, to the point that she's now going back into lessons after long-term reluctance to enter the classroom. We also have a school refuser, who now attends the school's Alternative Provision room to complete EDClass learning. He's learning in a way that suits him, but at the same time he's getting the same education as the other students in school. EDClass made his re-engagement easier, because we allowed him to study the Sciences (his favourite subjects) for the first week, but then started to feed in Maths and English, etc. so that he's now following a full, varied timetable.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“EDClass definitely helps to build student knowledge. We often start off with a basic knowledge pathway (especially in instances where there has been missed learning) and then increase the level of learning as the student gains confidence. This helps students to believe in their own ability, because they know that they've progressed to a higher level. We find that with certain types of learner, it's better than going straight in at a level that's too challenging and the student becoming disengaged because the work is too difficult.”
Nov 2021
EDClass has kept my son engaged and reignited his interest in learning. The platform is easy to use and there is a vast range of topics across all subjects. He particularly likes the maths and science modules and videos. The support he received was fantastic. Staff are friendly, approachable and check in regularly to see if he needs any further help, provide positive feedback on the work he has completed and encourage him to explore further learning. He had become quite disengaged from his learning so it’s amazing to see him excited to log on and learn again. I would definitely recommend EDClass to everyone, great platform and great staff.
Nov 2021
EDClass provides really good lessons are that are easy for students to access and there's someone on hand to help if they need any support.
Rebecca Smith found EDClass:
- Moderately reduces teacher workload“By using EDClass, teachers don't have to spend as much time preparing work for students to complete at home.”
- Significantly reduces attainment gap“Students who aren't in school are still able to keep up with their work via the EDClass platform, so there's no loss of learning.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“Students can enrich their learning by accessing subjects/topics of interest in the Independent Learning area of the platform. EDClass enables them to broaden their knowledge in areas that are outside their school timetable.”
Nov 2021
The EDClass learning platform supports students within different year groups and at different levels of learning. The work on the platform is curriculum based and reduces the requirement for catch-up. Our school is supported by the staff at EDClass and unlimited free training days are available to assist us in using the platform to it's full potential.
Kingsbury High found EDClass:
- Moderately reduces teacher workload“Once the pathways have been created the teachers time is reduced in creating paper based curriculum-relevant lessons.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“Offers learning and support for students at different levels of ability. Also the students can learn on the platform independently and search for learning of interest in their own time.”
Nov 2021
I have received lots of help from the EDClass team which is great. The platform is easy to access and is constantly being reviewed and developed. For example, the timetabling feature has recently been updated, which makes it quicker and easier if I need to make any changes.
Tim Astle found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“We use the platform for students who are unable to attend school for mental health or medical reasons. I always use the EDClass resource bank, which saves time when having to find the curriculum-relevant resources for students to complete whilst learning at home.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“EDClass takes the lead on the teaching, as their own teaching staff support our students whilst they're learning. I find this really helpful. EDClass also identifies areas of focus and tailors support for individual learners.”
- Significantly improves attainment“Without EDClass, the students wouldn't be getting any education. However, with the EDClass support they're realising that they can do it and they will be entered into the exams at the end of year 11.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“There are personalised learning pathways to encourage the students to remain focused. A student was fully disengaged but now they've become engaged with the tutor and they're doing extremely well.”
Oct 2021
We have the most vulnerable students, so engaging them in learning can be difficult, especially those with lots of social, emotional and mental health issues. To be able to have the resource on hand, which is safeguarded and tracks attendance is really useful, as we know they're engaged and they can report any safeguarding issues. The resources have really progressed since I started using EDClass and you can tell that there's been a lot of time invested in the platform over the last 10 years. I was one of the first people to use the provision so have seen it's development over time. There are even video lessons on it now!
Stephen Markham found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“It had a massive impact in terms of the remote learning we've had to put in place. We look at the curriculum for Maths, English, Science, Geography and PSHE and rather than staff having to create their own online resources for students who are on remote learning, we just matched it to the lessons on EDClass and set that curriculum up for a period of time when we were closed or in lockdown. We just pressed a button and the curriculum they were getting in school was now available virtually. It was a really good match!”
- Moderately reduces attainment gap“Due to the nature of our school, engaging pupils can be a challenge. The student who is using the seat has engaged well with his learning and is having more positive outcomes due to his EDClass support.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“EDClass has allowed teachers more time to focus on day to day teaching and the EDClass resources have saved staff a lot of time. It also allowed us to identify the areas of focus when we were in lockdown.”
- Significantly improves attainment“The pupil using the EDClass seat found learning in school very challenging. EDClass has allowed him to engage more positively with education.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“My experience is that the EDClass lessons do allow students to build knowledge, it is great for differentiated resources, and we can tailor a personalised curriculum to meet pupils need.”
Karl Hillman

Used EDClass occasionally for 4-6 months
Oct 2021
The EDClass platform helps support our students that do not have access to learning within school, and who would otherwise be falling behind. As the learning is reflective of the curriculum it reduces catch-up time.
Karl Hillman found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“The EDClass learning platform will reduce teachers workload in researching curriculum-relevant resources for the students lessons. The lessons with the relevant Key stage content are already created on the system, and can be selected and assigned to any student within the school.”
- Slightly reduces attainment gap“As we are a relatively new school to the EDClass platform I do not have examples of the impact on the attainment gap. I feel that as the learning is curriculum based and created around Key Stage groups, the students should be able to maintain their learning in conjunction with their peers in school. Also the pathways can be personalised to assist a student in the areas where more concentration learning is required.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“As less time is required in preparation of lessons, teachers are able to focus more time in other areas. As our school use the platform to support Alternative Provision, it supports reintegration by reducing the need for catch-up, and also identifies areas of focus for individual learners.”
- Significantly improves attainment“The EDClass platform supports the curriculum, and lesson sets are available to support different key stage groups and abilities. This provides the student with work that is reflective of the work that is being covered in school.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“Helps to maintain the students current level of learning and reduces the need for catch-up. The EDClass platform can be personalised to target areas where more focus is required, and Independent learning can be used by the whole school.”
Oct 2021
EDClass is easy to use and it's effective. It offers the ability to adapt the platform to create bespoke learning for each individual.
Emma Pellow found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“EDClass can be used for students who are at risk of exclusion. It also helps in attendance as it's easy to see when students have logged in, how long they've spent learning and which lessons have been completed. It saves time for attendance staff, as they don't have to fill out a register every day.”
- Significantly reduces attainment gap“It's differentiated and can stretch the students who need more challenge. When it came to GCSE revision... it was used mostly for students not attending school and it helped them to get a grade. The students wouldn't have achieved a grade without EDClass as they wouldn't have had access to supported learning, therefore it was helpful for GCSE preparation.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“EDClass has been used to mirror what the students are doing in school outside of school and to identify areas of focus.”
- Significantly improves attainment“Again, the GCSE results at the end of last year showed the impact EDClass has on attainment.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“EDClass bridges gaps in knowledge as it works alongside the school timetable to achieve a balance of learning for our students. If they were missing a maths lesson in school EDClass ensures there's no loss of learning.”
Sep 2021
Definitely! Our school has recommended EDClass to others in the past and will continue to do so.
Helena Compton-Jones found EDClass:
- Moderately reduces teacher workload“We use as EDClass+ as a 6th day provision, but also in our inclusion room, where it's really useful in instances where teachers cannot provide work to mirror the mainstream class (e.g. if the mainstream students are doing a practical lesson)”
- Significantly reduces attainment gap“For home-educating students, EDClass+ covers the parts of curriculum that they miss whilst being out of school, so they don't have as much catch-up when they return.”
- Moderately improves teaching efficiency“We use EDClass to reinforce our teaching by suggesting to students that if they wish to learn more to get a better understanding of a particular topic, they could go to the EDClass independent learning area and search for corresponding lessons in there.”
- Significantly improves attainment“EDClass helps to bridge gaps in learning, which impacts knowledge and progress, therefore helping to improve attainment.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“For long-term absentees, EDClass+ bridges a huge gap as, without it, some these individuals wouldn't be accessing any learning at all.”
Sep 2021
I have been using the EDClass learning platform within my school for just over a year, and found the support of the Customer Service team amazing. They have always been there at the other end of the phone to guide and support me whenever I have needed assistance. This has been especially helpful during the busy period that has been experienced whilst working through the pandemic.
Iain Mclellan found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“The EDClass platform reduces teachers time in setting work, as once the pathways have been set they can be used again for other students. This reduces the teachers time in setting lessons and allows them time to concentrate on teaching.”
- Significantly reduces attainment gap“Curriculum learning which mirrors the school's curriculum and is aimed at the individual student's level. The students also have access to an on-line teacher for support and allows them to keeps up to speed with peers.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“The EDClass platform identifies areas of focus for individual learners, and therefore bridges any gaps in learning. The platform also supports the reintegration of students by significantly reducing the requirement for catch-up.”
- Significantly improves attainment“Students that are absent from school and are learning on the EDClass platform benefit from being able to continue their learning. They and presented with lessons that reflect the schools curriculum. The platform targets students at varying levels of ability, and makes the reintegration process less of a daunting experience for the students, with little catch-up work needed.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“The students are able to continue learning within the schools curriculum on the EDClass platform. This enables them to maintain their levels of learning. The pathways are also personalised to suit the student level of learning, and encourages them to remain focused. Also the whole school have access to independent learning.”
Christine Gomerson
Teacher of Inclusion
Used EDClass daily for 0–3 months
Sep 2021
Being relatively new to the platform, I've not yet accessed the system in it's entirety, but I'm very happy with everything so far!
Christine Gomerson found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“Learning can easily be pre-assigned to all students, so there's never a need to spend time acquiring curriculum-relevant resource for individuals placed in the Inclusion Room. Their lessons are already in place and relevant to the learners needs.”
- Significantly reduces attainment gap“Because disengaged learners are able to access EDClass, they are getting the curriculum-relevant work that they would otherwise miss while being off-site. So, because they aren't missing the essential learning they need, it's not causing gaps in their knowledge and understanding.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“EDClass is also useful for lower ability students as bespoke pathways can be created for each individuals' level of learning. EDClass enables teachers to be assured that the leaner on EDClass is accessing the same materials as those in the classroom.”
- Significantly improves attainment“EDClass helps learners to reach their full potential because of the elements mentioned previously.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“EDClass also helps with student knowledge as it allows them to take control of their own learning through independent study. Self-marking questions mean that, as the learner works through the lesson they can build confidence through gaining feedback as the lesson progresses.”
Sep 2021
The EDClass platform alleviates the teachers time setting paper based lessons. Once the lessons have been set on-line, they can be selected for other students within that year group, ultimately saving time. Students are able to learn on a par with their peers. This helps improve attainment of learning, as the lessons are set appropriate to the year group for the student. The mark sheets can be viewed by the student to show the teachers comments and feedback, and highlights areas of learning that need to be focused on. The students have access to an on-line teacher at EDClass and they are supported within their lessons and safeguarded.
Scott Sweeney found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“The lessons are built through the EDClass learning platform, and once they are set up they are they are held within the schools platform to assign over and over again. This has a great impact on the teachers' workload and frees the teachers time building the appropriate paper based lessons. The EDClass lessons can easily assigned at a click of a button.”
- Significantly reduces attainment gap“The EDClass platform enables the students to complete work within the school curriculum. The work reflects work within the students' Key Stage year, and helps them attain the learning level so they can reintegrate back into the classroom and reduces any gaps in knowledge.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“The EDClass platform makes the assigning of pathways of work quick and easy, and allows teachers more time to concentrate on teaching. Once the lessons are created they are held on the platform and can be reassigned over and over again, which saves time in recreating work to reflect the curriculum.”
- Significantly improves attainment“The EDClass platform is used to support students within the inclusion area and offers learning and support for students at varying levels of ability. The students also have access to an on-line teacher within EDClass, and the on-line teacher also provides support for the student. The work completed by the student is marked by the teacher at EDClass, and these comments can be viewed by the student. This highlights the areas that the student needs to focus on to ensure that they attain their level of learning that would be experienced within the classroom.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“The lessons that are held on the EDClass platform mirror the curriculum, and allows students to attain their level of learning. As the learning pathways can be personalised, this encourages students to remain focused and engage with their learning. The whole school use aspect of the platform also means that students can access additional learning to develop their knowledge within areas of interest.”
Sep 2021
It's helped to manage exclusions, seclusions and increase attendance particularly with students who are persistent absentees. We used it positively to support students who have been moved out of the area on child protection plans and to facilitate reintegration to mainstream school when they've been through trauma. It's also been used to support students with high anxiety who were struggling to come into the building so their educational needs were met before they were able to build up their confidence to be in face-to-face, full-time education. We used it in internal inclusion as an intervention for behaviour modification.
Adele Chilton found EDClass:
- Significantly reduces teacher workload“EDClass has allowed the school to set accurate work for exclusions which means that students will always have an education if paper-based materials haven't been sent. It's also been useful for cover lessons.”
- Significantly reduces attainment gap“It does have an impact on the attainment gap when the students engage. The assessments helped students who struggled to get onsite.”
- Slightly improves teaching efficiency“Hard to comment because EDClass is being used as an inclusion intervention and for inclusions rather than a whole-school initiative. They haven't incorporated it into everyday teaching and learning.”
- Significantly improves attainment“Three students completed their GCSE year on EDClass seats and it's prevented them from permanent exclusion.”
- Significantly builds student knowledge“The students have completed their GCSE's from using EDClass and they may not have achieved a grade without access to the platform.”
