What is DoodleLearning?
DoodleLearning offer four digital learning programmes for ages 4-14: DoodleMaths, DoodleEnglish, DoodleTables and DoodleSpell.
Created by teachers, for teachers, they’re designed to boost confidence and ability in maths and English — and reduce staff workloads!
Benefits for teachers:
- Doodle creates every child a unique learning experience that automatically fills their gaps and tops up knowledge, helping them stay on track in school
- Staff can instantly set work in any area of the curriculum for use as a pre-teaching, consolidation, intervention or homework tool, reducing their workload (and saving queues for the printer!)
- Doodle automatically marks work and highlights each pupil’s learning gaps in an online hub, making it easy to offer additional support where needed
- It provides instantly exportable data including the % of EoY objectives covered, helping with teacher handovers, PPMs, report writing and lesson planning
Benefits for pupils:
- Doodle is filled with thousands of fun, interactive exercises, bringing the curriculum to life and reducing any anxieties they may have about maths and English
- It sets work at just the right level for each child, letting them work independently at a pace that’s right for them
- It rewards effort over ability, letting all pupils experience ongoing success and work alongside their peers on equal footing
- In-app accessibility options, including audio dictation, hints and coloured overlays, empower children to learn anytime, anywhere
Recommended Usage
Doodle is designed to be used for 10 minutes a day, or ‘little and often’, using Doodle in this way has been proven by the University of Bath to raise attainment and reduce learning loss.

Doodle has been a great resource for both teachers and pupils. The support team are always on hand to help and Doodle makes learning fun for all.
Emily Brewerton found DoodleLearning:
- Moderately reduces teacher workload“Teachers are able to set assignments to develop Pre/Post-teaching, fill gaps in learning, assess understanding, fulfil interventions, engage parents in pupil learning, increase participation in Home learning, engage pupils during school closures and Doodle gives pupils ownership of their own learning journey.”
- Significantly improves teaching efficiency“Doodle analyses tasks for you, if you've set an assignment (preview the questions to meet your needs) to retrieve/assess knowledge and all children are accessing the task, you may be able to recap or create a starter activity from that and progress knowledge further/review steps within the learning journey and adapt the level of challenge.”
- Significantly improves parent engagement“Parents are encouraged to link to their child/childrens accounts - enabling them to see the progress, levels of activity, assignments, competitions and rewards. Parents are keen to discuss home learning and how effective Doodles have been in supporting their own subject knowledge as well as enabling them to support pupil progress.”

- Significantly builds student knowledge“Children are able to use their prior knowledge and state "I know this, I've done it on Doodle." Children are remembering more, able to retrieve prior DoodleLearning and apply it in lessons.”
Dec 2023
It is good on occasion. I love how it has progress my children however I wish the games were not on the doodle app. I have to stand over my children to ensure they are actually doing the work and not the games. This has also happened in school. The tables can't be reset which is a pain as having done an in class bench mark it is clear the Lerners do not know their tables. It should allow the educator/parent to reset annual so they are tested again on tables.
Richie found DoodleLearning:
- Does not reduce teacher workload“We only use this as a homework activity. We do not use as an in class tool.”
- Does not improve teaching efficiency“None”
- Does not improve parent engagement“Across the school we do not have a high usage which of course for younger years is the parents not assisting in encouraging the learners to complete it.”
- Slightly improves attainment“Those that use it, it does. I started using this before my school did and it has worked wonders my my adopted boys.”
- Slightly builds student knowledge“Some of the questions are a little obscure and confuses learners (even in my year 6 class) as it is not SATS style.”

Leanne
Computing Lead
Used DoodleLearning weekly for 3-4 years
Dec 2023
The children enjoy Doodle - they love the advent calendar and the real Doodle badges that they receive for completing challenges. Parents like that they can see progress their child is making and it is a manageable resource for them to use at home.
Leanne found DoodleLearning:
- Moderately reduces teacher workload“Teachers use Doodle to set homework - Doodle marks and provides feedback to the children so that the teachers don't have to. The teachers can then review how their class is doing when they log in. Doodle also provides personalised learning to all of the children in the class and can be used to provide support or extension work during lesson time - less prep for the teachers.”
- Moderately improves teaching efficiency“Setting up homework is fast and easy - without the need for printing, copying and sticking in multiple sheets per child for every class. Using Doodle as morning starter work or extension work is again much more time efficient than copying work. The work is always at the correct level for the child moving them on when needed - making this easy for the teachers to review.”
- Significantly improves parent engagement“We have held in person Doodle meetings for our Reception parents and have found higher parental involvement. We have done this for the last couple of years and many of the parents that attended still ensure their child Doodles at home frequently. Parents contact me with any issues and they are sorted quickly by myself or Doodle giving us and the parent confidence with the online platform.”
- Moderately improves attainment“It is usually clear to class teachers which children are Doodling regularly (particularly in Maths) as they are able to recall subject knowledge quickly in class. They are used to practicing their maths skills and don't need as many reminders of strategies in the classroom. Those that Doodle regularly also appear more confident when discussing their skills.”
- Moderately builds student knowledge“Doodle helps with retention of knowledge so that the children's brains store the information in long term memory so that it can be recalled with ease. Doodle New bubbles explain new topics clearly and the help tools provide support for the children at all times - making them more confident using the platform.”
